An Insight into the Geolynx Dataset Collection
Published on: December 9, 2025
High quality data is needed for every meaningful analyses. This is true especially as the volumne of geospatial data continues to increase, which also leads to the need to store, access, and analyze spatial data in an efficient way.

Geolynx is building a platform that uses the power of satellite imagery and Earth Observation datasets to provides users access to a wide range of datasets tailored to their specific use cases. Whether this is in the area of environmental monitoring, precision agriculture, biodiversity assessment or climate-related analytics, our platform provides the data and analytics tool needed to support these analyses and decision-making.
Our collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) further enhances our capabilities, enabling us to deliver scalable and reliable accessibility to environmental data at different scales and resolutions by using DGGS (Discrete Global Grid Systems) to efficiently organize and integrate data globally. Additionally, this partnership positions us as leaders in the space-connection ecosystem. To support a wide range of geospatial analyses, we organise our data collections into thematic categories, with each including different environmental variables from open-data providers such as Copernicus, NASA, NOAA, ECMWF and ERA-5. These different categories of dataset range from air and climate, water, to, biodiversity, soil and land use.
Data Collections: Thematic Categories
Air & Climate
Our Air & Climate collection include:
Temperature (MODIS) - Ambient temperature data for climate and wildfire risk.
Humidity (Copernicus, NOAA, ECMWF) - Humidity levels that affect wildfire and drought conditions.
Wind Speed & Direction (Copernicus, ECMWF, ERA-5) - Critical for storm analysis, wildfire spread simulations, and renewable-energy planning.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions (EDGAR) - Global CO₂ and GHG emissions to support climate reporting and policymaking.
Air Quality (Sentinel-5P) - Pollutant concentration data supporting public-health, mobility, and environmental-compliance applications.
Water
The key variables include:
Water Bodies / Water Objects (Water and Wetness) - High-resolution detection of lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
Precipitation (Copernicus Climate Data Store, ECMWF, NOAA) - Critical rainfall data for drought assessment and hydrological forecasting.
Water Quality (Sentinel-2) - Surface reflectance indicators revealing turbidity, algal blooms, and contamination.
Soil Moisture (Copernicus) - Crucial for agriculture, irrigation planning, flood modelling, and ecosystem analysis.
Soil and Land Use
Our collection includes:
DEM (Elevation) (SRTM, Copernicus DEM, AWS3) - Essential for erosion modelling, flood risk analysis amd assessment.
Land Use / Land Cover (Copernicus Land Monitoring, WorldCover) - Detailed classifications of forests, croplands, urban areas, and natural landscapes.
Vegetation Cover (MODIS, Copernicus Tree Cover, Grassland) - Data on vegetation types and density, impacting erosion.
Waste
We provide:
Landfills (Sentinel-5P) — Spatial locations and sizes of waste management facilities.
Recycling Centers (various national sources) - Locations of recycling infrastructure.
Biodiversity
Included datasets:
Protected Areas (WDPA) - Official global boundaries of protected and conserved areas.
Species Richness (GBIF) - Counts of species diversity within a given area.
Energy
Our Energy category includes:
Solar Energy (NASA POWER) - Solar exposure data for solar energy potential.
Wind Speed & Direction (ERA-5) - Wind patterns for assessing wind energy potential.
Each of these dataset categories are integrated into Geolynx platvorm, thereby enabling users gain access to efficient global grids without the need for a deep technical expertise.
